Pedal Power Training Secures Four-Year Bikeability Contract with Southampton City Council

Pedal Power Training Ltd is thrilled to announce that it has been selected to deliver Bikeability Levels 1, 2, and 3, along with Bikeability Plus courses in Southampton schools. This initiative, supported by Southampton City Council’s Active Travel team, will see Pedal Power Training collaborate with various local cycle training providers to ensure a seamless and impactful delivery of cycling education over the next 12 months.

Donna Coyne, Director of Pedal Power Training Ltd, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are absolutely delighted and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Southampton City Council to bring high quality cycle training to the area. It’s an honour to play a role in supporting a safer, healthier, and more environmentally conscious generation.”

During the rigorous tender process, Pedal Power Training showcased its deep commitment and extensive experience in delivering high-quality cycling training. The company has been a certified Bikeability provider since 2009 and continues to uphold the highest standards of instruction, as recently affirmed by an outstanding external quality assurance review by the Bikeability Trust in March 2024.

This contract aligns perfectly with Pedal Power Training’s ongoing efforts to enhance cycling skills across the community. Leveraging collaborations with local organisations like Monty’s Bike Hub, Pedal Power Training is set to extend its reach, promoting healthier lifestyles and supporting Southampton City Council’s My Journey School Travel Programme and the Connected Southampton 2040 transport strategy.

“Our goal is to not only teach cycling but to inspire a lasting love for it,” said Donna. “We believe that through comprehensive and engaging cycle training, we can significantly contribute to the development of the Southampton Cycle Network and encourage more children and their families to choose cycling as a regular mode of transport.”

The programme is already off to a strong start, with over 2,300 places booked for the upcoming academic year, plus Balance, Learn to Ride and Level 3 Bikeability.  Pedal Power Training’s proactive approach ensures that the vast majority of schools will benefit from tailored, effective cycle training that meets the specific needs of their students.

Pedal Power Training prides itself on its structured approach to cycle training, focusing on effective management, continuous improvement, and active community engagement. The company looks forward to a fruitful partnership with Southampton City Council and a successful year of making cycling accessible and enjoyable for all young learners in Southampton.
