We've been nominated — twice! Help us become a People's Champion in the Celebration of Bikeability Awards
We've got some exciting news to share. Not one but two nominations have come our way in The Bikeability Trust's People's Champion awards, sponsored by Decathlon — one for Pedal Power Training as a whole, and one for our brilliant instructor Bryan Herman.
We're chuffed, and we'd love your help to get us over the line. Voting is quick, free and takes no time at all — more on how to do that below.
Nomination one: Pedal Power Training
Our nomination recognises something close to our hearts: removing the barriers that stop people getting on a bike. For us, cycling is about far more than riding from A to B — it builds confidence, independence and opportunities that last a lifetime.
Across Southampton, Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, we work with partners including Monty's Bike Hub and Cycles4All to create ongoing cycling opportunities for young people, and we're developing a community bike library to help even more children and families get riding, whatever their circumstances.
It means a great deal to be recognised for that work — and even more to share it with the people who make it possible.
Nomination two: instructor Bryan Herman
Bryan has been part of the Pedal Power team since 2023, instructing across Southampton and Portsmouth — and commuting in from the other side of Hampshire to do it.
He's been a keen cyclist his whole life, from his first Raleigh 'Boxer' as a child to his years living in Cambridge, one of the UK's biggest cycling cities. Away from Bikeability, he's also a cycle responder for St. John Ambulance, travelling the country with his bike loaded full of medical kit.
Ask Bryan what he loves most about the job and it's easy to see why he's been nominated:
"I also love that 'I'm doing it, I'm doing it!' reaction when a child rides for the first time!"
That moment — the one where it all clicks — is exactly what we're about.
Why it matters
Bikeability gives the next generation the skills and confidence to ride. The impact speaks for itself: after Level 2 training, 93% of riders feel more confident cycling on roads, and 96% of parents say they're likely to encourage their child to cycle (The Bikeability Trust, 2025). Every nomination, every session and every "I'm doing it!" is part of that bigger picture.
